About Me
I take on a holistic, evidence based, and culturally sensitive approach in the therapeutic space to aid in your healing journey along the way. I am passionate about working with young adults/adults suffering with anxiety, depression, life transitions, cultural diversity issues, and eating disorders.
My passion to work with this population began during my college years where I struggled with my own mental health while going through the obstacles that life threw at me. Along the way I struggled with issues such as body image, low self-esteem, and other people not accepting the “health at every size” concept. I felt insecure about my cultural identity due to my own community making me feel bad about my body and leading me to experience low mood. I knew that moment onwards, that I would like to aid others who have gone through a similar journey where they felt misunderstood and not accepted by society. That I want to be that person who can hold their hands and say you are worthy and you are beautiful.
I went on to pursue a master’s degree in Neuropsychology at University College London in UK during which I conducted research on how mental health disorders manifest themselves. Afterwards I went on to pursue a counseling degree at University of Pennsylvania to further expand and learn more about counseling and patient care.
This aided me to get intensive experience in various settings which included working at hospitals and outpatient agencies where I got experience working with adults suffering with anxiety, depression, OCD, eating disorders, and addiction. Through these experiences, I was trained in psychodynamic and CBT/DBT therapeutic modalities to treat conditions.
I believe that everyone is unique in their own way so approaches should be tailored to fit the needs and goals of the individual. My approach is to build rapport with you, uncover unconscious impulses, develop insight, and implement evidence based approaches. I also implement mindfulness based practices and conduct motivational interviewing.
I know it can be hard to take the first step in coming to therapy but I would like to assure you that you are not alone and I am here to support you along the way. Through a collaborative therapeutic relationship we can come together to meet your needs and goals.
